Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical and imaging characteristics of patients with calcaneal fractures at Can Tho Central General Hospital and Can Tho City General Hospital from 2022 to 2024. Methods: This descriptive retrospective study included 57 patients with confirmed closed calcaneal fractures who underwent open reduction and internal fixation with plate and screw at Can Tho Central General Hospital and Can Tho City General Hospital between January 2022 and December 2024. Result: Calcaneal fractures mainly occurred in working-age adults, predominantly in the 31–50 age group, with males accounting for 77.19%. Most patients presented with pain, limited ankle motion, and localized tenderness; isolated fractures accounted for 80.70%. The mean time from injury to surgery was 8.49 ± 2.87 days, with most surgeries performed within 7–14 days, and preoperative management was limited. Preoperative Bohler’s angle was markedly decreased, and Sanders type III fractures were the most common (63.16%). These findings highlight the importance of thorough clinical and paraclinical assessment to determine the appropriate timing and surgical approach.
