Abstract
Objective: To identify factors influencing exercise-based rehabilitation among older patients after femoral neck fracture surgery at the department of orthopedics, Nam Dinh general hospital, from the perspective of healthcare professionals. Methods: A descriptive qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with healthcare professionals who were directly involved in the care, treatment, and guidance of postoperative rehabilitation exercises for older patients with femoral neck fractures. Participants were selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using content analysis. Results: The findings indicated that rehabilitation exercise among older postoperative patients was influenced by multiple factors, including patients’ lack of initiative, fear of pain, limited disease-related knowledge, insufficient continuity and comprehensiveness of rehabilitation exercises, as well as constraints related to staffing, organization, and post-discharge support. In addition, healthcare professionals’ clinical competence and professional ethics played an important role in encouraging patient participation in rehabilitation exercises. Conclusion: Rehabilitation exercise among older patients after femoral neck fracture surgery is affected by interconnected factors related to patients, healthcare professionals, and the healthcare system. Identifying these influencing factors provides an important scientific basis for proposing appropriate interventions to improve rehabilitation outcomes and the quality of care for older patients in the future.
