Abstract
Objective: The study aims to determine the relationship between some risk factors and the possibility of recurrence of acute otitis media in children ≤ 3 years old at Cam Khe Regional Medical Center in 2024-2025. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study design on children ≤ 3 years old diagnosed with acute otitis media in the period from October 2024 to September 2025. Results: The prevalence rate in boys (59.9%) is higher than in girls (40.1%). The incidence of acute acute otitis media in children ≤ 3 years old is highest in the group of children from 6 months to 12 months old (40.8%). The most common time of illness is in autumn and winter. The most common functional symptoms are runny nose, stuffy nose, fever and ear picking. The incidence of otitis media in both ears is similar. The tympanic membrane is bulging or has a hole and pus in the ear canal. There is often sinusitis associated with acute otitis media. Children under 3 years old with acute otitis media, the younger they are when they first get the disease, the higher the risk of recurrence. Children who have had nasal irrigation have a higher risk of recurrence of acute otitis media. Children with laryngopharyngeal reflux have a higher risk of recurrence of acute otitis media. Conclusion: There is a close relationship between nasal irrigation, laryngopharyngeal reflux and acute otitis media. Children should be examined early to detect and treatment of rhinopharyngitis.
