Abstract

Objective: To describe the current status of urinary retention after surgical procedures (POUR) at Cam Khe Regional Medical Center, Phu Tho province in 2025 and some related factors. Method: A descriptive longitudinal study on 384 surgical patients at Cam Khe Regional Medical Center, Phu Tho province from March 2025 to October 2025. Data were collected through medical records and clinical interviews. Results: Of the 384 patients, 16.9% (65/384) had symptoms of urinary retention. The rate of urinary retention requiring intervention was 8.9%. Men have a higher risk of urinary retention than women (OR = 36.47; 95% CI: 11.38–116.96). Diabetes significantly increases the risk of urinary retention, with (OR = 12.6; 95% CI: 2.76–52.69). Urological pathology increases the risk of urinary retention (OR = 4.25; 95% CI: 1.02–17.72). Trauma surgery increases the risk 5.02 times (OR = 5.02; 95% CI: 1.65–15.24). Patients who receive spinal anesthesia have a higher risk of urinary retention than those who receive general anesthesia (OR = 3.02; 95% CI: 1.01–8.08). Conclusion: Urinary retention after surgical surgery is a common complication. Male sex, underlying pathology, trauma surgery and spinal anesthesia are the main risk factors. Conclusion: There should be a screening process, early monitoring and investment in bladder ultrasound to improve the quality of treatment.
