SURGICAL OUTCOMES OF UTERINE LEIOMYOMA AT BACH MAI HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of surgical treatment for uterine leiomyoma at Bach Mai Hospital. Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted on 118 medical records of patients diagnosed with uterine leiomyoma who underwent surgical treatment at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Bach Mai Hospital, from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. Results: Open surgery accounted for the vast majority of uterine leiomyoma procedures (94.1%), of which total hysterectomy was predominant, performed in 99 out of 111 cases. Laparoscopic surgery was performed in 7 cases (5.9%), all of which were total hysterectomies. Most operations lasted between 60 and 120 minutes (68.6%). Preoperative blood transfusion was required in 35 of 118 patients (29.7%). In the laparoscopic group, 57.1% of patients had a uterine size of less than 8 weeks. All patients with a uterine size greater than 12 weeks were managed by open surgery. Surgical success without complications was achieved in 94.1% of cases. Conclusion: Surgical management of uterine leiomyoma at Bach Mai Hospital is predominantly open surgery with total hysterectomy, with most cases showing no complications. Comprehensive evaluation of relevant factors is essential for selecting an appropriate surgical approach and ensuring patient safety
