Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the quality of recovery and associated factors in patients undergoing day-case aesthetic plastic surgery. Materials and methods: A prospective longitudinal study was conducted on 351 patients undergoing aesthetic plastic surgery and discharged on the same day at the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, Cho Ray Hospital. Quality of recovery was assessed using the Quality of Recovery-15 (QoR-15) questionnaire at two time points: preoperatively and 24 hours postoperatively. Associations between QoR-15 scores and demographic characteristics, clinical factors, and perioperative variables were analyzed. Results: The median age of the study population was 45,5 ±14,3, with females accounting for 60,1%. The median QoR-15 score decreased significantly from 145 (IQR: 143–147) preoperatively to 139 (IQR: 136–142) at 24 hours postoperatively (p < 0.001). At 24 hours after surgery, 98.0% of patients achieved excellent or good recovery, while 2.0% had a moderate level of recovery. Factors significantly associated with the 24-hour QoR-15 score included educational level, economic status, patients’ understanding of the disease and treatment information, surgical specialty, anesthesia technique, type of surgical incision, and postoperative pain intensity. Conclusions: Patients undergoing day-case aesthetic plastic surgery generally achieved good quality of recovery. However, a small proportion of patients with moderate recovery require closer postoperative monitoring and support. Assessment of quality of recovery using the QoR-15 is a valuable tool for surgeons to optimize postoperative care.
