Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted on 36 patients diagnosed with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma who underwent hepatectomy combined with extrahepatic bile duct resection at Viet Duc University Hospital between 2015 and 2025. Results: The mean age was 59,94 ± 9,08 years old, with a female predominance (52,8%). The most common presenting symptoms were jaundice (72,2%), weight loss (33,3%), and right upper quadrant pain (27,8%). Elevated total bilirubin (TB) levels at hospital admission were observed in 80,6% of patients, with a mean concentration of 156,07 ± 122,08 µmol/L, and CA 19-9 was elevated in 88,9% of patients. On CT and/or MRI, type III and IV tumors accounted for 83,4% of cases (Bismuth–Corlette classification). Conclusion: Perihilar cholangiocarcinoma is frequently diagnosed at an advanced stage with the development of progressive obstructive jaundice, most of them belong to type 3, 4 on CT, MRI.
