WOUND HEALING PROCESS AFTER RADICULAR CYST ENUCLEATION WITH BONE GRAFTING COMBINED WITH PLATELET-RICH PLASMA

Abstract
Objective: To monitor and evaluate the wound healing process in patients undergoing radicular cyst enucleation with bone grafting combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 30 patients who underwent radicular cyst enucleation with bone grafting combined with PRP at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology. Clinical examinations and radiographic assessments were performed at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months postoperatively to collect study variables, including wound characteristics, presence of surgical site infection, and the degree of bone defect filling with artificial bone graft material. Results: At 1 week and 1 month postoperatively, good wound healing without signs of infection was observed in 70% and 93.3% of patients, respectively. After 3 months, 96.7% of patients achieved an overall favorable outcome. However, one case of graft-related fistula formation was recorded at 1 month postoperatively. Conclusion: After 3 months, 96.7% of patients demonstrated good wound healing, absence of infection, and more than 40% bone defect fill. Adequate postoperative wound care and oral hygiene are essential to prevent infection. Surgical intervention in cases of infected cysts should be carefully considered due to the risk of postoperative complications and a potential reduction in surgical success rate.
