Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are a major public health concern that requires increasing attention. The risk of cardiovascular events rises substantially when hypertension is accompanied by dyslipidemia. The coexistence of these two conditions in the same patient significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular damage as well as stroke. Therefore, the early identification and screening of these risk factors play a crucial role in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and in reducing morbidity and mortality rates. Objective: To investigate the status of dyslipidemia and its related factors among patients with primary hypertension at 30-4 Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 157 patients diagnosed with primary hypertension, using a convenient sampling method at 30-4 hospital. Results: The prevalence of dyslipidemia among patients with primary hypertension was 84.08%, with LDL-C being the most commonly altered lipid component (54.8%). A significant association was found between dyslipidemia and BMI (OR = 2.727; p = 0.021), physical activity (OR = 2.721; p = 0.04), and duration of hypertension (OR = 3.556; p = 0.004). No statistically significant differences were observed with respect to age, gender, smoking, or alcohol consumption. Conclusion: Dyslipidemia was highly prevalent among patients with primary hypertension, accounting for 84.08%, with LDL-C being the predominant abnormal lipid component. The risk was particularly higher in individuals with BMI ≥ 23, lack of regular physical activity, and longer duration of hypertension.
