TREATMENT CHARACTERISTICS AND PROGNOSTIC FACTORS FOR HOSPITAL STAY DURATION IN PATIENTS WITH LIVER ABSCESSES AT 108 MILITARY CENTRAL HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: This study aims to analyze the treatment characteristics and prognostic factors associated with the length of hospital stay in patients with liver abscesses at the 108 Military Central Hospital. Methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted on 196 patients with liver abscesses from January 2018 to August 2023. Data was collected from medical records, including clinical and paraclinical results, treatment methods, and hospital stay duration, and analyzed using SPSS 25.0. Results: The primary treatment methods included Cephalosporin antibiotics (67.3%), Metronidazole (55.6%), and abscess drainage (61.7%). The average abscess size was 63.3 mm, with the majority (>50 mm) in 62.2% of cases. Klebsiella pneumoniae was the predominant pathogen (based on microbiological data from 69.2% of pus samples). The average time to fever resolution was 7.9 ± 6.6 days, and the average hospital stay was 13.8 ± 7.6 days, with a recovery rate of 97.4%. Larger abscesses (>50 mm), drainage procedures, and underlying conditions were significant factors prolonging hospital stay (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Combined antibiotic therapy, especially broad-spectrum antibiotics with abscess drainage, proved highly effective. However, large abscess size and comorbidities significantly extended hospitalization, likely reflecting disease severity.
