Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To assess the quality of life (QoL) of patients with melasma using the MELASQOL scale. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 214 patients with melasma at Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital from November 2024 to July 2025. Results: The median age was 45 years, and 100% of participants were female. The median MASI score was 7.2 (4.8-11.7). There was a statistically significant correlation between MASI severity score and age group, number of childbirths, duration of melasma, clinical type, and type of melasma. The mean MELASQOL score was 41.3 ± 11.6. The proportion of patients with mild QoL impairment was 45.8%, while moderate and severe impairment accounted for 39.3% and 15.0%, respectively. Mental health was the most affected domain. There was a positive and statistically significant correlation between MELASQOL and MASI scores (r = 0.35, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Melasma significantly affects patients’ QoL, and evaluating their quality of life is essential. MELASQOL is a useful and highly reliable tool for QoL assessment.
