Abstract

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a common reason for gynecologic consultations among women of reproductive age and has a significant impact on health and quality of life. Objectives: To describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of abnormal uterine bleeding in women aged 18-52 years at Thu Duc Regional General Hospital. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 50 women presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding in 2025. Results: A study of 80 women with abnormal uterine bleeding showed that the majority were aged 35-52 years. The most common clinical manifestation was prolonged menstrual bleeding lasting more than 7 days (97.5%), with a mean duration of 10.31 ± 4.17 days. The mean endometrial thickness on ultrasound was 9.01 ± 4.77 mm, most commonly ranging from 5 to 10 mm (48.8%). Endometrial biopsy results demonstrated a predominance of benign lesions, with normal endometrium (75%) and endometrial polyps (12.5%) being the most frequent findings; no cases of endometrial cancer or atypical endometrial hyperplasia were identified. Anemia was observed in 28.75% of cases but showed no clear association with endometrial histopathological findings. Conclude: Among 80 cases of abnormal uterine bleeding, endometrial lesions were predominantly benign, with normal endometrium and endometrial polyps being the most common findings; no cases of endometrial cancer or atypical hyperplasia were identified. Anemia was frequently observed but was not associated with histopathological findings, and endometrial thickness alone showed no specific diagnostic value. Endometrial biopsy remains a key method for diagnosis and guiding management.
