Abstract

Objective: Description of the imaging characteristics of the paranasal sinuses in patients undergoing maxillofacial computed tomography at Thai Binh university medical hospital. Subjects and methods: A retrospective, descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 530 patients. Results: Sinonasal imaging abnormalities were present in 68.99% of patients, with anatomical variants identified in 46.0%. Nasal septal deviation was the most prevalent anatomical variant (42.6%), while ectopic teeth were the least common (4.1%). Multi-sinus involvement (46.6%) and bilateral lesions (63.1%) were predominantly observed. The osteomeatal complex remained patent in 87.3% of cases. The maxillary sinus was the most frequently affected site (86.2%), whereas the frontal sinus showed the lowest involvement (13.1%). Mucosal thickening was most common in the right maxillary sinus (53.1%). Fluid accumulation occurred in 19.2% of patients, with the highest rates of both partial (7.3%) and complete (2.3%) opacification found in the left maxillary sinus. Space-occupying lesions were most frequently identified in the left maxillary sinus (10.4%).
