CHARACTERISTICS AND PREGNANCY OUTCOMES OF ANEMIC PREGNANT WOMEN DELIVERING AT VINMEC TIMES CITY INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: To describe the characteristics and pregnancy outcomes of anemic pregnant women delivering at Vinmec Times City International Hospital.
Subjects and Methods: This study was conducted on 1,184 mother–infant pairs managed at Vinmec Times City International Hospital from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
Results: The mean maternal age was 34.0 ± 4.6 years. The prevalence of anemia during pregnancy was 23.6%. The rate of favorable outcomes was high (86.1%), while postpartum complications were low (0.5%). The rates of preterm birth, neonatal ICU admission, congenital anomalies, neonatal complications, and low birth weight (<2500 g) were 5.5%, 12.6%, 0.9%, 2.6%, and 3.9%, respectively. The proportions of Apgar scores below 7 at 1 minute and 5 minutes were 1.4% and 0.8%, respectively. No significant association was found between maternal anemia and obstetric or neonatal outcomes (p > 0.05). However, the prevalence of anemia was significantly higher among women requiring postpartum blood transfusion compared to those who did not (71.4% vs. 23.7%; p < 0.05).
Conclusion: Pregnancy outcomes were generally favorable, with low rates of maternal and neonatal complications. Although no association was observed between maternal anemia and neonatal outcomes, anemia was significantly associated with an increased risk of postpartum blood transfusion. These findings highlight the importance of screening and managing anemia during pregnancy to improve maternal safety.
