Abstract

Evaluation of analgesic efficacy and selected adverse effects of epidural analgesia using Bupivacaine combined with Fentanyl during labor at Hung Vuong General Hospital from June 2024 to June 2025. A descriptive study was conducted on 222 parturients in labor who received epidural analgesia. The technique was primarily performed during stage IB of labor (93.7%). The mean Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain score decreased significantly from 6.59 ± 1.2 before epidural administration to 3.31 ± 1.5 at 30 minutes after the procedure (p < 0.001). Effective pushing efforts were observed in 73.4% of cases. The incidence of adverse effects was low, including urinary retention (4,1%), nausea and vomiting (5,9%), and pruritus (9,0%). A high level of maternal satisfaction was reported (95,5%). These findings suggest that epidural analgesia using bupivacaine combined with fentanyl provides effective pain relief during labor with a low rate of adverse effects and high maternal satisfaction.
