INITIAL EFFECTIVENESS OF HIGHLY ASPHERICAL LENSLET SPECTACLE LENSES FOR MYOPIA CONTROL IN CHILDREN

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the short-term effectiveness of highly aspherical lenslet spectacle lenses in slowing myopia progression and axial elongation in children.


Methods: In this retrospective case series, 20 eyes of 10 myopic children aged 6–14 years were fitted with highly aspherical lenslet spectacle lenses and followed for 6 months at Hanoi Eye Hospital 2. Changes in spherical equivalent refraction (SE) and axial length (AL) from baseline were analyzed.


Results: At 6 months, mean change in spherical equivalent was 0.16 ± 0.26D, corresponding to an annualized rate of 0.33D/year. Mean axial elongation was 0.06 ± 0.09 mm (0.12 mm/year). The proportion of eyes achieving at least good myopia control was 75.0% based on spherical equivalent (SE) and 65.0% based on axial length (AL).


Conclusions: Highly aspherical lenslet spectacle lenses demonstrated clinically meaningful short-term efficacy in reducing myopia progression and axial elongation in children. These findings support their potential role as a non-invasive optical intervention for myopia control.
