APPLICATION OF RANDOM FASCIOCUTANEOUS FLAP FOR COVERAGE OF TROCHANTERIC PRESSURE ULCERS

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of random fasciocutaneous flaps in the treatment of greater trochanteric pressure ulcers.


Subjects and methods: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 25 patients with 27 stage III and IV greater trochanteric pressure ulcers who underwent surgery at Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital from April 2025 to February 2026.


Results: Rotation random flaps were the most commonly used type (70.4%). The median defect size was 6.4 × 4.3 cm. Primary closure of the donor site was achieved in 96.3% of cases. The median operative time was 67 minutes, and the median wound healing time was 14 days. Good early outcomes were observed in 81.5% of cases, fair outcomes in 18.5%, and no poor outcomes were recorded. Hematoma/seroma, wound dehiscence, and flap ischemia each accounted for 7.4% of cases.


Conclusion: Random fasciocutaneous flaps are a safe and suitable option for moderate-sized greater trochanteric pressure ulcers.
