Abstract

Objective: To evaluate knee functional recovery following arthroscopic meniscal repair using the Lysholm and IKDC scores.


Methods: A prospective, non-controlled interventional study was conducted on 32 patients undergoing unilateral arthroscopic meniscal repair between January 2024 and December 2025. All patients followed a standardized five-phase rehabilitation protocol. Clinical and functional outcomes were assessed at 1, 3, and 6 months.


Results: The mean age was 34.3 ± 13.6 years (65.6% male). The clinical success rate was 90.6%; second-look arthroscopy confirmed complete healing in 75.0% and partial healing in 15.6% of patients, with a structural failure rate of 9.4%. The mean Lysholm score improved from 64.1 ± 6.3 at 1 month to 89.4 ± 10.3 at 6 months, with 87.5% achieving good-to-excellent outcomes. The mean IKDC score increased from 53.4 ± 6.2 to 75.6 ± 14.5, with 75.0% classified as grade A or B (Friedman test, p< 0.001 for both scores). The RTS rate reached 84.4% at 6 months, with a mean return time of 6.4 ± 0.9 months. ROM, VAS, and LSI improved from 78.00 to 128.60, 3.8 to 1.6, and 52.9% to 85.3%, respectively, across the follow-up period.


Conclusion: Arthroscopic meniscal repair combined with a standardized five-phase rehabilitation protocol yielded favorable outcomes at 6-month follow-up in terms of meniscal healing, knee function, and return to sport.
