EVALUATION OF HIP FUNCTIONAL RECOVERY AFTER HEMIARTHROPLASTY AND POSTOPERATIVE REHABILITATION IN ELDERLY PATIENTS AT VINMEC TIMES CITY INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate hip functional recovery in elderly patients following hemiarthroplasty using the Harris Hip Score (HHS) and the Short Form-36 (SF-36).


Methods: A prospective, uncontrolled interventional study was conducted on 30 patients aged ≥60 years who underwent hemiarthroplasty for femoral neck fractures or intertrochanteric fractures at VINMEC Times City from January 2023 to December 2025. All patients received a structured postoperative rehabilitation program. Outcomes were assessed using the HHS and SF-36 at baseline (preoperative), and at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were also evaluated. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. Repeated measures ANOVA was applied, with p < 0.05 considered statistically significant.


Results: The mean age of the study population was 76.6 ± 5.6 years, with females accounting for 70.0%. The HHS improved progressively across follow-up time points (p < 0.001). At 6 months, 56.6% of patients achieved good to excellent outcomes. Patient satisfaction rates regarding pain relief and walking ability reached 83.3% and 80.0%, respectively. All domains of the SF-36 showed improvement over time.


Conclusion: Hemiarthroplasty combined with a structured postoperative rehabilitation program is an effective approach for improving functional outcomes and quality of life in elderly patients with hip fractures.
