EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF 3-MONTH TRIPTORELIN IN THE TREATMENT OF CENTRAL PRECOCIOUS PUBERTY AT THE VIET NAM NATIONAL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL (2018–2023)

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of 3-month triptorelin in the treatment of central precocious puberty (CPP) at the Viet Nam National Children’s Hospital from 2018 to 2023.


Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted on 45 girls diagnosed with CPP who were initially treated with intramuscular triptorelin 11.25 mg every 3 months.


Results: The mean height gain was 3 ± 1.11 cm after 6 months, corresponding to a growth velocity of approximately 6–6.2 cm/year, approaching the physiological range. Serum levels of LH, FSH, and estradiol decreased in both groups; however, statistically significant reductions were observed only in the group treated with 3-month triptorelin from the beginning. Uterine size decreased and returned to prepubertal values in both groups, with statistically significant changes observed in group 1. The bone age/chronological age ratio significantly decreased in group 1, indicating better suppression of bone maturation. No adverse effects were observed during the 6-month follow-up period.


Conclusion: Triptorelin, particularly the 3-month depot formulation used from the outset, demonstrated significant effectiveness in the treatment of central precocious puberty after 6 months. The therapy effectively suppressed the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis, slowed bone maturation, improved morphological parameters, and normalized growth velocity, with no short-term adverse effects observed.
