INITIAL RESULTS OF FLOW-DIVERTER STENT PLACEMENT FOR THE TREATMENT OF UNRUPTURED WIDE-NECK INTRACRANIAL ANEURYSMS AT THANH HOA PROVINCIAL GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background: To evaluate clinical characteristics, imaging features, and initial outcomes of flow diverter stent placement in the treatment of unruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms at Thanh Hoa General Hospital.


Objectives and Methods: A retrospective case series study was conducted on 9 patients with unruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms treated with flow diverter stents from August 2023 to November 2025. Clinical, imaging, and procedural outcomes were collected and analyzed.


Results: The mean age was 65.1 years, with a predominance of females (88.9%). Headache was the most common symptom (88.9%). A total of 10 aneurysms were identified, all saccular and located in the internal carotid artery. Most aneurysms were < 7 mm (77.8%). A total of 11 stents were deployed, with an average of 1.1 stents per aneurysm. The technical success rate was 100%, with no intra-procedural or post-procedural complications during hospitalization. The mean hospital stay was 11.3 days.


Conclusions: Flow diverter stent placement is a feasible and safe treatment option with promising initial outcomes for unruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms at a provincial hospital setting.
