Abstract

Background: Stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality and disability worldwide, and hypertension is a major but modifiable risk factor. Assessing factors influencing stroke among hypertensive patients is important for developing effective interventions to improve prevention outcomes.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 178 hypertensive outpatients receiving treatment at Gia Loc District Medical Center, Hai Duong Province, who agreed to participate in the study from April to June 2023.

Results: Several factors were significantly associated with knowledge of stroke prevention, including age (OR = 5.32; p = 0.00), educational level (OR = 2.33), occupation (OR = 0.325; p = 0.04), comorbid cardiovascular disease and diabetes (OR = 2.39 and OR = 2.53), and receiving health information from healthcare workers (OR = 4.83). Factors associated with positive attitudes toward stroke prevention included educational level (OR = 3.687), cardiovascular disease (OR = 3.65), and receiving counseling from healthcare workers (OR = 2.304).

Conclusion: Age, educational level, and sources of health information were significantly associated with knowledge and attitudes toward stroke prevention among hypertensive patients.
