Abstract
Objectives: To describe epidemiological, clinical, laboratory characteristics, causes, and treatment of seizures in children aged 2 to 60 months treated at Tien Giang General Hospital.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 180 children aged 2–60 months diagnosed with seizures and treated at the Pediatric and Pediatric Intensive Care Departments from January to December 2024. Data were retrospectively collected from medical records and analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Results: Children aged >6–36 months accounted for 76.7%, with a median age of 21 months; males represented 60.0%. Febrile seizures were predominant (93.3%), most occurred at home, and the majority had a single seizure per episode. Hyponatremia was the most common laboratory abnormality (45.6%). The main cause was febrile seizures (86.1%), followed by epilepsy (11.7%). Most patients had favorable outcomes, with 99.4% discharged.
Conclusions: Seizures in children aged 2–60 months at Tien Giang General Hospital were mainly febrile in origin and associated with good treatment outcomes.
