Abstract

Background: Inguinal lymph node involvement is an important prognostic factor in penile cancer. Open inguinal lymphadenectomy is associated with high morbidity.

Aims: To evaluate the results and early complications of video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (VEIL) in patients with penile squamous cell carcinoma at Binh Dan Hospital.

Materials and Methods: Retrospective case series of 32 patients underwent VEIL from September 2023 to March 2025. Complications were graded by Clavien-Dindo.

Results: Mean age was 54.1 years (37-74). Mean operative time for bilateral VEIL was 206.8 min (160-260). Mean lymph node yield was 9 nodes (6-12). No intraoperative complications and no major complications (Clavien-Dindo ≥ IIIb) were recorded. Postoperative complications: lymphocele 3.1%, mild lymphedema 12.5%, wound infection 6.25%. No skin necrosis or surgery-related mortality. No inguinal recurrence at 1-year follow-up.

Conclusions: VEIL is a safe and feasible technique, significantly reducing postoperative complications compared to open surgery.
