Abstract
Objective: To identify factors associated with length of hospital stay among children with community-acquired pneumonia at Ba Vi General Hospital, Hanoi.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 532 children aged 2 months to 5 years diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia and hospitalized from July 15, 2025 to March 15, 2026. Clinical and laboratory variables were collected; multivariable linear regression was used to determine factors associated with length of stay.
Results: The mean length of hospital stay (LOS) was 8.04 ± 2.17 days. There were no statistically significant differences in LOS across different etiology groups and disease severity at admission (p > 0.05). Multivariable linear regression analysis revealed that the 2-12 months age group and a history of pneumonia were associated with a longer LOS, with β coefficients of 0.758 and 0.731, respectively (p < 0.001). Additionally, the number of days of oxygen therapy was positively associated with LOS (β = 0.225; p = 0.028). No statistically significant associations were observed for other factors.
Conclusion: LOS in children with community-acquired pneumonia remains relatively long. Younger age, longer duration of oxygen therapy, and a history of pneumonia were associated with length of stay.
