Abstract

Objective: To describe the characteristics of care for children under 2 years old with acute diarrhea at Vinmec Times City International Hospital.

Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 152 hospitalized children under 2 years old diagnosed with acute diarrhea at the Pediatric Department of Vinmec Times City International Hospital from 2022 to 2023.

Results: In this study, 100% of children received oral rehydration solution (ORS) on the first day of admission, with 90.1% of mothers correctly administering ORS. The rate of intravenous fluid therapy was 63.2%, with 10.5% experiencing infusion-related complications. Fever management primarily involved tepid sponging (80.9%), while the use of antipyretics was (27.6%). The rate of guidance for vomiting management was high (87.5%), whereas direct support and care for children with diarrhea remained limited. Nutritional counseling and disease prevention education exceeded 90%. Overall, 82.9% of children received good quality care.

Conclusion: The care for children under 2 years old with acute diarrhea at the hospital was relatively good, with high adherence to treatment protocols and health education. Some limitations remain in direct care practices and caregiver guidance. Therefore, it is necessary to further standardize care procedures, enhance nursing capacity, and strengthen health education to comprehensively improve the quality of care and treatment outcomes for children.
