IMPROVEMENT IN QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC CORONARY SYNDROME UNDERGOING PERCUTANEOUS CORONARY INTERVENTION
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) does not improve survival outcomes in patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). However, several studies have demonstrated that PCI may significantly improve quality of life (QoL).
Objectives: To compare changes in QoL assessed by the Seattle Angina Questionnaire-7 (SAQ-7) before and one month after PCI in patients with CCS, and to identify predictors of QoL improvement.
Methods: This prospective cohort study included symptomatic CCS patients who underwent successful PCI at the Interventional Cardiology Department of Cho Ray Hospital. Baseline characteristics and SAQ-7 scores were collected before PCI and reassessed one month after the procedure.
Results: From November 2024 to March 2025, a total of 138 patients were enrolled, including 56 women (40,6%), with a mean age of 63,66 ± 11,16 years. QoL significantly improved one month after PCI across all domains: physical limitation, angina frequency, treatment satisfaction, and overall QoL (all p < 0,001). Multivariate analysis showed that absence of depression (OR = 7,50; 95% CI: 2,21–25,41) and single-vessel coronary artery disease (OR = 54,92; 95% CI: 5,21–579,21) were independent predictors of QoL improvement (p < 0,05).
Conclusions: PCI significantly improves quality of life in patients with chronic coronary syndrome. Absence of depression and single-vessel coronary artery disease are significant predictors of QoL improvement.
