LIPID PROFILE ABNORMALITIES IN HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS AT THE NATIONAL HOSPITAL OF TRADITIONAL MEDICINE IN 2025

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major public health concern and is strongly associated with cardiovascular disease and premature mortality. Dyslipidemia is an important risk factor that contributes to the development of atherosclerosis in hypertensive patients.


Objective: To investigate the characteristics of lipid abnormalities in hypertensive patients treated at the National Hospital of Traditional Medicine in 2025.


Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 200 hypertensive patients and 200 non-hypertensive subjects at the National Hospital of Traditional Medicine from June to December 2025. Lipid parameters including total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), HDL-C, and LDL-C were measured using the Beckman Coulter AU480 system.


Results: The mean levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C were higher in the hypertensive group, while HDL-C was lower compared to the non-hypertensive group. The prevalence of dyslipidemia in the hypertensive group was 72.0%, significantly higher than in the control group (58.0%) (OR = 1.86; p = 0.003). The proportion of patients with ≥2 abnormal lipid components in the hypertensive group was 41.0%.


Conclusion: Dyslipidemia is common among hypertensive patients, particularly multi-component lipid abnormalities, which may contribute to an increased cardiovascular risk.
