VIDEO HEAD IMPULSE TEST AND CALORIC TEST IN MENIERE'S DISEASE

Abstract
Purpose: To describe the results of Video Head Impulse Test and caloric test in Meniere Disease.
Patients and methods: 92 patients diagnosed with MD have been enrolled at the National Otolaryngology Hospital from June 2022 to June 2024.
Results: 60 females (65.2%), 32 males (34.8%); mean age 48.6 ± 7.6. The left ear was affected in 52 (56.5%) and right ear in 40 (43.5%) cases. Mean disease duration was 3.2 ± 1.3 years. Mean hearing loss was 52 ± 16.1 dB HL. All patients had normal Video Head Impulse Test results; 4 had normal caloric reflex. Mean caloric deficit was 39.2 ± 5.6%.
Conclusion: Video Head Impulse Test was normal outside episodes of crisis during advanced unilateral definite Meniere Disease, in contrast to abnormal caloric reflex. This dissociation can help distinguish Meniere Disease from other inner ear diseases.
