Abstract

Background: Lumbar spondylosis is a common chronic condition that causes pain and functional limitation, adversely affecting quality of life. A comprehensive assessment is essential for effective treatment and rehabilitation.

Objectives: To assess pain intensity, quality of life, and related factors in patients with lumbar spondylosis.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 168 patients with lumbar spondylosis who attended the hospital from May to November 2025.

Results: The mean pain score measured by the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was 4.5 ± 1.7. Most patients experienced moderate pain (60.7%), followed by severe pain (29.8%). The mean overall quality of life score was 55.13 ± 6.30, with physical health (52.17 ± 7.98) being lower than mental health (58.09 ± 7.57). Analysis showed that age, occupation, history of disc herniation, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and lumbar spinal deformity were significantly associated with both pain intensity and quality of life (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: Patients with lumbar spondylosis mainly experienced moderate to severe pain and had a moderate level of quality of life. Early detection, appropriate management, and individualised rehabilitation interventions are necessary to reduce pain and improve quality of life.
