CURRENT STATUS OF RECURRENCE PREVENTION AMONG PATIENTS WITH GASTRIC AND DUODENAL ULCERS AT NAM DINH GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: Describe the current status of recurrence prevention among patients with with gastric and duodenal ulcers at the Department of Gastroenterology, Nam Dinh General Hospital.
Methods: A descriptive study was conducted on 146 inpatients receiving treatment at the Department of Gastroenterology, Nam Dinh General Hospital from April to May 2024.
Results: The study results showed that 54.8% of patients had inadequate knowledge regarding the prevention of recurrence of gastric and duodenal ulcers, mainly limited in understanding of causes, dietary regimen, and treatment adherence. However, the majority of patients had positive attitudes toward disease prevention, accounting for 57.5%. Nevertheless, 42.5% of patients had not paid sufficient attention to changing dietary habits, lifestyle, and accessing health information. These findings indicate the need to strengthen counseling and health education for patients.
Conclusion: The status of recurrence prevention among patients with gastric and duodenal ulcers within the scope of this study was still low, with only 45.2% of patients having adequate knowledge and 57.5% having an appropriate attitude toward recurrence prevention.
