Abstract

Objective: To assess the current state of post-operative care for patients after retrograde ureteroscopic lithotripsy with JJ stent placement.

Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 242 patients undergoing retrograde ureteroscopic lithotripsy with JJ stent placement at the Urology Department of Nam Dinh General Hospital.

Results: Patients received good care for the urethral-bladder stent, with over 95% of patients receiving all necessary care. The majority of patients experienced mild pain after surgery (63.6%), moderate pain (31.4%), and severe pain (5%). A high percentage (52%) experienced good urination after stent removal, while 44% still had hematuria, 1.6% had hematuria, 1.6% had urinary incontinence, and the lowest rate was urinary retention (0.8%). During their hospital stay, a high percentage (over 85%) of patients received health education. Upon discharge, only 80.6% of patients achieved satisfactory results (low-salt diet, limited oil and fat intake).

Conclusion: Further training courses on post-operative care for patients after retrograde ureteral lithotripsy with JJ stent placement are needed. Several solutions are proposed to improve post-operative care for patients after retrograde ureteral lithotripsy with JJ stent placement.
