Abstract

Background: Climate change and air pollution strongly impact allergen patterns, posing challenges in the management of allergic rhinitis (AR).

Objective: To determine the prevalence of 20 common allergens via semi-quantitative serum specific IgE results in AR patients.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study, retrospective (Jan 2022 – Jan 2025) and prospective (Feb 2025 – May 2025) on patients undergoing the RIDA qLine Allergy Panel 1 Viet test at the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City.

Results: House dust mite and hay dust allergens were prevalent with prevalence of: D. farinae (61.81%), D. pteronyssinus (61.11%), B. tropicalis (57.64%), and hay dust (24.31%). 66.66% of patients were positive to multiple allergens (polysensitized). The prevalence of sensitization to D. pteronyssinus and D. farinae mites was higher in males than in females. The mite-positive group was generally younger than the negative group.

Conclusion: House dust mite and hay dust allergens were predominant. Polysensitization accounted for the majority.
