CHARACTERISTICS OF HYPOTENSION IN CESAREAN SECTION PATIENTS AT NINH BINH OBSTETRICS AND PEDIATRICS HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Hypotension poses numerous dangers to both mother and fetus, such as reduced utero-fetal blood flow leading to fetal anemia, acidosis, and decreased maternal cardiac output which can cause altered consciousness; in severe cases, it can lead to maternal and fetal death.
Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics of pregnant women undergoing cesarean section with hypotension at Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital who were treated with ephedrine and noradrenaline.
A total of 142 patients with hypotension were treated with Ephedrine and Noradrenaline at Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital from May 2025 to March 2026.
Results: The 25–29 age group accounted for the highest proportion in both groups, with 38.0% in group E and 36.6% in group N. The first episode of hypotension following spinal anesthesia most commonly occurred at T2 and T3, with T3 being the most frequent (46.5% in group E and 56.3% in group N; the overall rate was 51.4%). The proportion of patients experiencing hypotension twice was markedly higher in group N (25.4%) compared to group E (11.3%). Among the 26 patients with recurrent hypotension, most cases occurred within 4–6 minutes after the initial episode. Severe hypotension was the most common level in both groups, accounting for 53.5% in group E and 64.6% in group N (overall: 59.2%).
Conclusion The first episode of hypotension following spinal anesthesia most commonly occurred at T2 and T3. Group E had a lower rate of recurrent hypotension and fewer episodes of hypotension than group N.
