Abstract

Objectives: To describe the status of anemia and analyze several associated factors among patients undergoing periodic hemodialysis at E Hospital in 2024.


Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 114 patients undergoing periodic hemodialysis at the Department of Nephrology and Dialysis, E Hospital, from July 2025 to October 2025.


Results: 100% of the patients were diagnosed with anemia. The mean hemoglobin (Hb) concentration was 87,7 ± 13 g/L. Moderate anemia accounted for the highest proportion (54.4%), followed by severe (27.2%) and mild (18.4%) anemia. Females exhibited a significantly higher severity of anemia compared to males (p = 0.023). Among male patients, Hb levels showed a negative correlation with the Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR), an inflammatory marker (r = -0.261; p = 0.041).


Conclusion: Anemia is highly prevalent (100%) among periodic hemodialysis patients at E Hospital, predominantly at moderate and severe levels. Gender and the inflammatory index (NLR) are significant factors associated with the severity of anemia.
