Abstract

Objective: To describe the dental caries status among children aged 6 to 10 years at Multiple Intelligences School (MIS), Hanoi, during the 2024–2025 academic year. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 512 children aged 6–10 years in March 2025. Data were collected through clinical examinations and recorded using the study examination form, then analyzed using SPSS 20.0 software. Results: The prevalence of children who had experienced or currently had dental caries was 71.7%. The prevalence of primary tooth caries was 58.0%, while permanent tooth caries was 21.9%. Among students with dental caries, only 51.5% had previously received restorative treatment. The mean number of decayed primary teeth decreased with age, whereas the mean number of decayed permanent teeth increased with age; these differences were statistically significant (p < 0.05). Female students had a higher number of filled non-carious teeth than male students; however, there was no significant overall difference in dental caries status between genders. Conclusion: Dental caries remains a common condition among primary school children, while the proportion of children receiving restorative dental treatment remains low compared to actual treatment needs. School-based oral health programs, regular dental examinations, and oral health education for both students and parents should be strengthened to improve the prevention and management of dental caries in school-aged children.
