GASTRIC ANTRAL SCHWANNOMA: A CASE REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Aim of Study:
1. Case Report of Gastric Antral Schwannoma.
2. Review of the Literature.
Patient and method: Retrospective study (case report)
Result: A 49 year-old male, presented with epigastric pain and weight loss, No mass palpable on physical examination.
CTscan revealed a well defined, exophytic tumor located at posterior–antral gastric wall mesuasing15-40mm,lymph nodes along lesser curvature.
Gastroduodenoscopy: Gastritis.
Intra operation findings: Tumor 8-10 cm located at posterior wall of antral region, solid exophytic mass. The anterior face of pancreatic body was intact.
Surgical Procedure: 2/3 Gastrectomy with Finsterer reconstruction.
No complication post operation.
Histopathologic findings: Nodular mass, Spindle cells; 17/17 lymphnode negative
Immunohistochemical finding: S100 (+); SOX 10(+), Ki67(+) < 3%; CD 117(-); CD 34(-)
Conclusion: Gastric antral schwannoma is rare. The symptoms are not specific. These tumors are often misidentified as submucosal tumors such as gastrointestinal stromal tumors Leiomyomas or other mesenchymal tumors. Definitive diagnosis may require immunohistochemical analysis. Gastric Schwannoma provides the patient with an excellent prognosis as these lesions are generally benign and do not invade lymphatics. Currently, the recommended treatment is complete surgical resection.
