MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING CHARACTERISTICS OF VERTEBROBASILAR ANEURYSMS IN PATIENTS TREATED AT VINMEC TIMES CITY INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL IN 2025
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To describe the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics of vertebrobasilar aneurysms in patients treated at Vinmec Times City International Hospital in 2025.
Subjects and Methods: This prospective descriptive study included 40 patients diagnosed with vertebrobasilar aneurysms who underwent MRI and received treatment at Vinmec Times City International Hospital between January and December 2025.
Results: A total of 40 patients with 45 aneurysms were enrolled. The mean age was 52.5 ± 14.0 years, and 60.0% were female. Most patients had a single aneurysm (92.5%). The basilar artery was the most common aneurysm location (40.0%). Saccular aneurysms predominated (86.7%), with aneurysm sizes of 3–7 mm accounting for 62.2%. Irregular aneurysm walls, wide necks, and dome-to-neck ratios ≥1.5 were observed in 60.0%, 53.3%, and 57.8% of aneurysms, respectively. MRI demonstrated intraluminal thrombus in 8.9% of aneurysms, adjacent parenchymal edema in 4.4%, mass effect on the brainstem or cranial nerves in 11.1%, and aneurysm wall enhancement after contrast administration in 15.6% of cases.
Conclusion: Most vertebrobasilar aneurysms on MRI/MRA were saccular, measured 3–7 mm, were located in the basilar artery, and exhibited irregular walls and wide necks. These imaging characteristics provide important morphological information for pre-treatment assessment.
