Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics and 72-hour progression among patients with acute ischemic stroke at the Emergency Department of Ha Dong General Hospital in 2025.

Subjects and methods: A prospective descriptive study was conducted among 85 patients with acute ischemic stroke. Data were collected at admission, 24 hours after admission, and 72 hours after admission.

Results: The mean age of the patients was
69.88 ± 12.30 years, and males accounted for 56.5%. Hypertension was the most common comorbidity. Most patients were admitted more than 4.5 hours after symptom onset (68.2%). The common clinical manifestations were hemiparesis or hemiplegia, dysarthria or speech difficulty, headache, and dizziness. After 72 hours, clinical symptoms and assessment scores tended to improve, with clinical improvement observed in 64.7% of patients.

Conclusion: In this study, patients with acute ischemic stroke tended to be older adults, and most were admitted beyond the 4.5-hour time window. Clinical symptoms and assessment scores showed early improvement after 72 hours; however, these findings reflect only the short-term progression of the study population.
