THE RESULTS OF FLEXIBLE URETEROSCOPY RETROGRADE INTRARENAL SURGERY FOR MULTIPLE RENAL CALYCEAL STONES AT CAN THO CENTRAL GENERAL HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Urolithiasis is a common disease worldwide, with a prevalence ranging from 1% to 5%. Among these patients, the proportion presenting with multiple renal calculi (two or more stones) is 22.7%. Flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy was marking a revolution in minimally invasive surgery that continues to the present day. At Can Tho Central General Hospital, retrograde intrarenal surgery using flexible ureteroscopy has been implemented in the management of patients with single or multiple renal stones.
Objectives: To evaluate the outcomes of retrograde intrarenal surgery using flexible ureteroscopy in the treatment of multiple renal calyceal stones at Can Tho Central General Hospital.
Materials and methods: 33 patients diagnosed with multiple renal calyceal stones were treated with retrograde intrarenal surgery using flexible ureteroscopy at Can Tho Central General Hospital. Results: The mean age was 45,13 ± 10,17 years (range: 23–73 years), with a male-to-female ratio of 2/1. The mean number of renal stones was 2,4, the mean stone size was 22,7 ± 9,84 mm. The mean operative time was 74,5 ± 12,26 minutes. The mean postoperative hospital stay was 1,7 days (range: 1–7 days). The stone-free rate was 82,8% at 1 month and 87,9% at 3 months after surgery.
Conclusion: Retrograde intrarenal surgery using flexible ureteroscopy for the treatment of multiple renal calyceal stones is a minimally invasive procedure associated with a high stone-free rate, rapid recovery and a low rate of complications.
