Abstract

Objective: To describe the care outcomes of moderate, very, and extremely preterm infants at Thai Nguyen National Hospital.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 57 preterm infants under 34 weeks of gestation at Thai Nguyen National Hospital from January 2025 to December 2025.

Results: The proportions of moderate, very, and extremely preterm infants were 52.6%, 26.3%, and 21.2%, respectively. All infants (100%) had good monitoring of vital signs; respiratory support, nutrition, and weight monitoring reached 96.3%; skin, eye, and umbilical care 98.1%; bathing 94.4%; and procedures 92.6%. Lower rates were observed in gastrointestinal monitoring (77.8%) and detection of complications (85.2%). Infants receiving antibiotics were 23.5 times more likely to receive good care compared to those not receiving antibiotics (p < 0.05). The overall rate of good nursing care was 89.5%.

Conclusion: The quality of care was generally good, with high compliance across most domains, particularly in vital signs monitoring and respiratory support. However, gastrointestinal monitoring and early detection of complications require improvement. Antibiotic treatment was associated with better quality of care.
