Abstract

Objective: To describe self-reported health status and associated factors among patients with severe osteoporosis at Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital in 2026.

Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 111 patients with severe osteoporosis receiving treatment at Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital. Health status was assessed using the EQ-5D-5L, while patients’ overall self-rated health was assessed using the EQ-VAS.

Results: Severe osteoporosis affected all five dimensions of the EQ-5D-5L scale, most notably pain/discomfort (91.9%) and usual activities (91.0%). The median EQ-5D-5L score was 0.6164, and the EQ-VAS score was 56. Multivariate analysis revealed that an education level below high school was independently associated with lower EQ-5D-5L scores (B = -0.0633; p = 0.002) and lower EQ-VAS scores (p < 0.001).

Conclusion: Severe osteoporosis was associated with impaired health status across multiple dimensions. Lower educational attainment was independently associated with both EQ-5D-5L utility and EQ-VAS. Comprehensive management and health education tailored to patient characteristics are warranted.
