Abstract

Background: Hip disorders, including osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis of the femoral head, and hip trauma, are increasingly common. Hip replacement surgery is an effective treatment for these conditions; however, it is a major surgical procedure associated with significant postoperative pain, the risk of complications, and the need for early mobilization to promote functional recovery. Therefore, postoperative nursing care plays an important role in pain management, monitoring for complications, facilitating early mobilization, and improving treatment outcomes

Objective: To describe patient characteristics and nursing care outcomes and to identify factors associated with nursing care outcomes among patients undergoing hip replacement surgery at Ha Dong General Hospital in 2024.

Methods: A prospective descriptive study was conducted among 120 patients undergoing hip replacement surgery

Results: Patients aged ≤60 years accounted for 51.6%, while those aged >60 years accounted for 48.4%. The duration of surgery was <120 minutes in 85.8% of patients and ≥120 minutes in 14.2%, with a mean operative time of 100.62 ± 54.03 minutes. At postoperative day 3, 92.5% of patients had dry surgical wounds. More than 80% of nursing care activities met the predefined criteria. Overall, 82.5% of patients achieved satisfactory nursing care outcomes. Patients aged >60 years had 3.26 times higher odds of having an unsatisfactory nursing care outcome than those aged ≤60 years (OR = 3.26; 95% CI: 1.17–9.09; p = 0.01). Patients with an operative time of ≥120 minutes had 3.20 times higher odds of having an unsatisfactory nursing care outcome than those with an operative time of <120 minutes (OR = 3.20; 95% CI: 1.03–9.96; p = 0.03)

Conclusions: Overall, 82.5% of patients achieved satisfactory nursing care outcomes. Older age and longer operative time were associated with unsatisfactory nursing care outcomes.
