REVIEW OF INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE IN ANTISYNTHETASE SYNDROME
Main Article Content
Abstract
Anti-synthetase syndrome is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by a heterogeneous clinical presentation. Common manifestations include myositis, fever, inflammatory arthritis, Raynaud’s phenomenon, ‘mechanic’s hands”, and interstitial lung disease. Anti-synthetase syndrome is considered part of the spectrum of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. Although there is substantial clinical overlap with Polymyositis and Dermatomyositis, a key distinguishing feature is the presence of autoantibodies against an aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase. Interstitial lung disease associated with anti-synthetase syndrome represents the most frequent and clinically significant complication, contributing substantially to morbidity and mortality. The clinical course and severity of interstitial lung disease can vary widely depending on the specific anti-synthetase antibody profile. Therefore, a comprehensive evaluation incorporating clinical features, radiological findings, and serologic antibody patterns is essential for accurate diagnosis and for guiding appropriate therapeutic strategies.
