Abstract

Objectives: To describe the current practice of health education counseling provided by nurses to inpatients at the Neurology–Stroke Department, Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi, in 2025, and to identify associated factors.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted through direct observation of 416 health education counseling sessions provided by nurses using a standardized checklist. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 20.0.

Results: The proportions of patients who received complete health education counseling were 81.0% at admission, 89.4% during hospitalization, and 89.2% before discharge. Overall, 87.5% of patients received complete health education counseling throughout their hospital stay. Complete counseling practice was significantly associated with nurses’ age, health education counseling training, and years of experience.

Conclusion: The overall practice of health education counseling by nurses was relatively high at the Neurology–Stroke Department, Tam Anh General Hospital; however, slight variations were observed across the three stages of hospitalization.
