Abstract

Granular cell tumor is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm with Schwannian origin that is commonly found in tongue, skin and soft tissue. Pulmonary granular cell tumor is exceptionally rare, usually in tracheobronchial tree. Pulmonary granular cell tumor could pose a diagnostic challenge due to its infrequency and its own risk of malignancy. We reported a 35-year-old man presented with persistent coughing. Imaging study revealed a tumor in the center of pulmonary right upper lobe suspecting malignancy. Our patient undergone lobectomy with regional lymphadenectomy. The post-surgery histopathological result was a benign granular cell tumor. Twenty-four months post-surgery, no locoregional recurrence was found. This case highlights the importance of histopathological examination to reach a definitive diagnosis and benign granular cell tumor could be managed effectively by surgery.
