Abstract

Objective: To apply DP in the assessment of Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TILs) and determine their association with prognostic factors in invasive breast carcinoma of no special type (IBC-NST) at Tam Anh General Hospital during the period 2023–2025.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using secondary data collected from January 2023 to July 2025 on 71 patients diagnosed with invasive breast carcinoma of no special type at Tam Anh General Hospital.

Results: The mean TILs value was 12.41 ± 14.24%, with a median of 8.0% (IQR 10%), ranging from 1% to 80%. Low TILs levels (<10%) accounted for the highest proportion at 60.6% (43 cases), followed by intermediate TILs levels (10–40%) at 33.8% (24 cases), while high TILs levels (>40%) represented only 5.6% (4 cases). Intermediate/high TILs levels were more frequently observed in tumors with high nuclear grade, ER/PR-negative status, HER2-positive subtype, and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), and also tended to be associated with a higher frequency of lymph node metastasis. In contrast, no statistically significant associations were found between TILs and tumor size, tumor necrosis, histological grade, or Nottingham Prognostic Index (NPI) (p > 0.05). These findings suggest that TILs may reflect the molecular biological characteristics of tumors rather than merely their morphological features.
