Abstract

Background: Recent reports have indicated an increasing rate of multidrug-resistant Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of peptic ulcer disease and the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant H. pylori infection at Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City.

Methods: This was a retrospective study including all pediatric patients (under 16 years old) diagnosed with peptic ulcer disease based on clinical presentation and consistent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy findings at Tam Anh General Hospital in 2025. We collected data on clinical characteristics, endoscopic findings, urease test results, H. pylori culture, and antibiotic resistance rates.

Results: A total of 318 pediatric patients with peptic ulcer disease met the inclusion criteria. The prevalence of H. pylori infection was 82%. Antibiotic resistance rates of Clarithromycin, Levofloxacin, Metronidazole, Amoxicillin and Tetracycline were 99%, 33%, 3.5%, 0.3% and 0%, respectively.

Conclusion: The antibiotic resistance of H. pylori is increasing, as observed at Tam Anh General Hospital. Further studies are needed to evaluate the extent of antibiotic resistance of H. pylori in Vietnam.
