Abstract

Background: Gastric cancer is a common malignancy with high mortality. Although it predominantly affects individuals over 50 years of age, the incidence in younger patients has been increasing. This group exhibits distinct clinical and biological characteristics, is often diagnosed at an advanced stage, and generally has a poorer prognosis.

Objectives: To describe the clinical characteristics of two young patients with gastric cancer and to review the literature to clarify epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment features of this population.

Methods: A case series of two young patients diagnosed with gastric cancer at Tam Anh General Hospital. Clinical, paraclinical, imaging, histopathological data, and treatment course were collected and analyzed, combined with a literature review.

Results: Both patients were diagnosed at an advanced stage with extensive disease and peritoneal metastases. One case was a pediatric patient with signet ring cell carcinoma showing rapid progression; the other was a young female with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma requiring multimodal treatment. Both cases presented with nonspecific symptoms, leading to delayed diagnosis.

Conclusions: Gastric cancer in young patients appears to be increasing, often characterized by aggressive histology, late presentation, and poor prognosis. Associated factors include Helicobacter pylori infection, genetic predisposition, and environmental influences. Enhanced screening in high-risk groups is essential for early detection and improved outcomes.
