Abstract

Background: Cervical cancer is strongly associated with persistent high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection. Genotype distribution varies by geography, population, and screening setting.

Objective: To determine HR-HPV prevalence and genotype distribution among women tested at Tam Anh General Hospital, including age-specific patterns and coinfection.

Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study included 6,606 cervical specimens collected from January 1 to December 31, 2025. Real-time PCR testing was performed on the Cobas 5800 and Alinity m platforms. Proportions were reported with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI), and age-group differences were assessed using the Chi-square test.

Results: HR-HPV was detected in 928/6,606 samples, corresponding to 14.05% (95% CI: 13.23–14.91). HPV16, HPV18, and other HR-HPV were detected in 2.44%, 1.39%, and 11.43% of all samples, respectively. Prevalence was highest in women aged <30 years (16.87%), followed by those aged ≥50 years (15.83%); the difference was statistically significant (χ² = 17.24; df = 3; p < 0.001). Coinfection with at least two genotype groups occurred in 8.08% of positive cases.

Conclusion: HR-HPV prevalence was 14.05%. Non-HPV16/18 HR-HPV predominated, with higher prevalence among women aged <30 and ≥50 years.
